Saturday, July 21st

The Black Hills Amateur Radio Club is again sponsoring its annual ham radio tailgate party, Saturday, July 21, 2018, starting at about 9 AM MDT.  The location is the same as last year.   Bring your “junque” and sell out of the back of your trunk, hatchback or pickup.  We also plan to be again selling some  items that belonged to the late Dick Kroes, KIØD.   Bring plenty of cash, in order to fetch all those wonderful bargains that will be available.  Don’t forget a hat, sunblock and a cool beverage for hydration.  Folding chairs aren’t a bad idea, either.   Even if you aren’t buying or selling, it’s a great opportunity to get together with old friends and have “eyeball QSOs.”   The club is not charging any admission fee or any commission on your sales.  If you feel guilty about having such a good time, feel free to make a donation to our treasurer, or his designee.   Start time will be around 9 AM and we will go until everything is sold or the attendees are out of cash, tired out or hungry.   The place is Robbinsdale Park, in the southeast part of Rapid City.   If coming from Highway 79 (Cambell Street), turn on to E. Fairmont Blvd.  Drive west until you come to Robbinsdale Park street (next to a fire station).  Turn north (right).  You will drive in between several ball fields before arriving at the park.   If coming from Mt. Rushmore Rd., turn on to Cathedral.  You will be going east as you pass the hospital.  Cathedral becomes Fairmont, after crossing 5th Street, even though you have not made any turns.  Eventually, you will reach Robbinsdale Park street, next to the fire station.  Turn north (left) and follow the same directions, as above.   The other entrance, at the north end of Robbinsdale Park is from E. Oakland Street.  If you find E. Oakland, drive south into the park on Robbinsdale Park street.   There are no reservations for this park and it would be nice to have some “early birds” occupy a shelter and nearby parking.   If you think you are lost, try calling someone on the 34/94 repeater or 146.52, simplex.  Someone should answer. Below is a map showing Robbinsdale Park.  We’ll be at the shelter in the northwest corner of the park.  If you zoom into the map, note that the road through the park labeled Hawthorne is supposed to be Robbinsdale Blvd.  Also, the southern part of the park has been redesigned, so the road configuration is not exactly what is on the map.
